About Us

The Indian Council of Rehabilitation and Sports for the Disabled was founded in the year 1978 in Kolkata with a view of enhancing the sports culture, action and mobility among the physically challenged citizens of our country.

ICRSD has since taken leading part in and an organized sport meets at Regional, National as well as International sporting events at several levels. ICRSD organized its first National Sports Meet in Kolkata in the year 1992. ICRSD sent the Indian Team to the Seoul Para Olympics in the year 1988 and also to the Barcelona Para Olympics in 1992. The president of the ICRSD team – DR. Tapan Kumar Dhar led the Indian Para Olympics team as Sheff-De-Mission.

Inspite of our various achievements and accomplishments in sports UCRSD still felt that there was something missing in the lives of these people which led us to include more creative and recreational activities with the intention of inculcating a feeling of social wellbeing and independence among our members.

We offer welfare and rehabilitation to the multi category disabled persons of all ages through our Socio-Economic rehabilitation programmes. We have received land from the government of West Bengal and aid from our various benefactors which has helped us to build a three storey.

  • To participate in the National and International games and sports including sending teams in Paralympics.
  • To encourage the handicapped persons for social and political events also.
  • To organise rallies and conventions in different fields.
  • To fight for the social integrations and equality among the handicapped and non handicapped persons to fight for the job reservations in Government and private sectors.
  • The ultimate aim of our society is social rehabilitation of course.
  • About The Founder

    The founder of this N.G.O(Indisn Council of Rehabilitation Sports for the Disabled) Mr. Tapan Kumar Dhar, who himself is a severely handicapped person both Physically and Visually), has founded this organisation in 1966 and is registered under societies registration act in 1978.

    Mr. Dhar is very keen to encourage the sports activities among the physically and mentally handicapped persons.

    Mr. Dhar organised about ten to twelve Sports Meet in this country.

    Mr. Dhar participated, with the participants, in Delhi National Sports meet, where Mr. Dhar was given Medal by the Honourable Prime Minister Of India.

    Mr. Dhar was given a grant from The Full Bright Scholarship, where he was assigned at the San Francisco State University for higher study. He has been given a comprehensive and practical training of the "sheltered workshop" for the handicapped at the San Francisco Community Rehabilitation Workshop after the completion of the study, at San Francisco. Mr. Dhar participated in the seminars / conferences in the different cities in the USA.

    Mr. Dhar was granted a fellowship from World Rehabilitation Fund and visited several Rehabilitation centres and workshop., in the Eastern parts of the USA.

    Mr. Dhar after that visited several countries of Europe and Latin America.

    Later he was given fellowship from the British Council and visited several workshop and rehab centres in different parts of United Kingdom.

    On his return, Mr. Dhar devoted full attention and endeavour to grow multipurpose activities of ICRSD, Mr. Dhar however obtained a plot of land at Kasba Industrial Estate, off E. M. Bye Pass, Kolkata. Out of his earned fund and donation free various sources, he managed to construct a three storied building, where various vocational Trades-Training are given to the handicapped boys and girls.

    Mr. Dhar participated in Barcelona Paralympics as The Chief Of The Mission, and also participated The Seol and Japan Paralympics with Indian Team.

    Mr. Dhar is now trying outmost to establish a residential "HOME" for the physically and mentally handicapped persons in Kolkata ( West Bengal).

    He appeal to the welfare minded people around the world to “ Donate” for Mr. Dhar's dream project.

    Mr. Dhar is Married and has a Son and a Daughter.

This is an Appeal for Donation for the Construction of Residential Hostel for the Handicapped Students.

We need Donations on Plot of Land in Kolkata or nearby suburbs. We shall GIVE FREE VOCATIONAL TRAINING at our centre at the Kasba Industrial Estate Kolkata.

Indian Council of Rehabilitation & Sports For The Disabled , India Donations are exempted from U/S 80G of act 1961.
